Lux Aeterna 2026

Lux Aeterna 2026 traces the Christian pilgrim’s journey: from the longing for God’s presence, through the experience of redemption in Christ’s sacrifice, to the confidence of His continuing intercession and the hope of His everlasting kingdom.

These themes are woven throughout the 2026 service, beginning with the introit pairing of Lord, I Stretch My Hands to You and People Need the Lord. Together, they express the universal human recognition that our deepest need is not merely for comfort, direction, or provision, but for God Himself.

The prayer of Moses in Exodus 33 deepens this theme: “If Your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.” In these profound words, Moses acknowledges that no earthly blessing can compare with the gift of God’s abiding presence. This scriptural plea is echoed in Reuben Kigame’s beloved Kiswahili setting, Enda Nasi (“Go With Us”), a prayer that continues to resonate with Christians seeking God’s guidance and companionship along life’s journey.

This longing for God’s nearness finds particularly poignant expression in Felix Mendelssohn’s Hear My Prayer, especially in its concluding aria, O for the Wings of a Dove. Here, the soul yearns for peace, refuge, and rest amid the burdens of life—a longing that transcends generations and cultures. The need for God recurs throughout today’s programme, yet it is never left unanswered. The Christian faith proclaims not only our human need, but also God’s gracious provision. The answer to that need is found in the redeeming work of our Lord Jesus Christ upon the cross.

This year, we are delighted once again to introduce a new congregational hymn, His Robes for Mine. We invite you to join in its proclamation of the great exchange at the heart of the Gospel: Christ taking upon Himself our sin and brokenness, that we might receive His righteousness, forgiveness, and peace.

As the service unfolds, themes of prayer, presence, redemption, and assurance converge in the person of Christ—the Light of the World. Through Him, we find access to the Father, confidence in His intercession, and strength for our journey of faith. Thus, the programme moves from longing to fulfilment, from petition to praise, and from earthly need to eternal hope.

The 7.00 am Choir ministering at The Lux Aeterna 2026 comprised a diverse fellowship of adults and youth who seek to live as intentional disciples of Christ and faithful instruments of the Holy Spirit, drawing others to Him through worship and witness.
